Who's that girl?

Hi! Bonjour! My name is Mytsumi and welcome to my little corner of the web.

I created this space to spark a sense of curiosity amidst the day-to-day hustle of adulthood through reading, travel, and self-discovery. I want to offer you a chance to press pause and discover or rediscover the things that bring you the most joy. I'm not ashamed to say that it took me almost 31 years to realize that I'm at my best when I take the time to disconnect. Just get lost, whether it be in the moment, in a new novel or in the streets of an unfamiliar city.

I have always been interested in travelling, but only started getting serious about it a few years ago. I did a Contiki tour in Europe the summer of 2014 with some girlfriends and I'm pretty sure that's what did me in. It was a whirlwind 10 days jumping from one country to the next and visiting Switzerland, France, the Netherlands and Spain.  I was hooked. Since that trip, I've been committed to travelling more and have had the privilege of a visiting countries like Mexico, Morocco, Thailand and Panama.

Ok, so I kinda have a thing for travelling, but here are a few other "fun" facts to know about me:

  1. I was born and raised in Montreal

  2. I'm a bona fide bookworm (shout-out to my mom for those mandatory library visits on Sundays after church!)

  3. My snack of choice will always be a bag a chips

  4. I have a strange affinity for well designed bathrooms

  5. Parallel parking is my actual nightmare

Bon! Come on in, get comfortable and see if there’s anything you like.
Oh, and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram  - you'll be happy you did!

Why "The Jeune Life"?

At first, this was meant to be a place where I could take a trip down memory lane whenever I was feeling nostalgic. Remind me of the cultures I’ve immersed myself into, the food….THE 👏🏾 FOOD 👏🏾 , the hotel rooms that I once called “home” and the countless times life has shown me that the best plans are the ones you don't plan for.

I love to travel because its a chance to push the pause button, but more than anything I love the liberated feeling it gives me. I feel like I’m a kid again. You know, how life was before work, errands, and deadlines. But….while traveling literally makes my heart skip a beat, life doesn’t allow me to be on a plane jet-setting across the globe every month. I can wish that everyone ⏤ especially people of colour ⏤ got the chance to discover their own travel highs (and lows), but the reality is not everyone has the means to make this a priority.

So, this blog is also about celebrating the less extravagant things in life that still give us those feelings of adventure and excitement.  It’s about embracing our innate capacity to be curious about ourselves and the world around us, something we were born doing. The word “jeune”, by the way, is French for young. The Jeune Life challenges us to be intentional in our approach to our daily lives, practicing more openness and less judgment, something children happen to do very well. My hope is that by sharing, someone will be inspired to buy that plane ticket, pick up that book or just go out and try something that has always excited them.

But before you do any of that, let us raise our hypothetical glasses and cheers to more adventures, more self-discovery, more downtime, more laughter….cheers to The Jeune Life.
